UAE Small Business Relief Ends in 2026: What Happens to Your Taxes Next

Since June 2023, Small Business Relief has let eligible UAE companies pay 0% Corporate Tax instead of the standard rate. A lot of founders have gotten comfortable with that number on their P&L. The problem: this relief has an expiry date, and it's coming up fast.
Who currently qualifies
To claim Small Business Relief for a tax period, your business needs to meet two conditions: your revenue must not have exceeded AED 3 million in the current period or in any previous period since 1 June 2023, and you must not belong to a Multinational Enterprise Group with consolidated global revenue above AED 3.15 billion. If both are true, you elect the relief through your Corporate Tax return for that period, and you're allowed to prepare your financials on a simplified cash basis rather than full accrual accounting.
The part everyone forgets
Small Business Relief is only available for tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2026. As things stand, no extension has been announced. That means for most businesses running a standard calendar tax year, this is the last full year you can claim it. From 2027, if your taxable income exceeds the relief threshold, you move into the standard Corporate Tax regime automatically.
Why this matters even if you feel prepared
The relief did more than save you tax — it let you skip proper accrual bookkeeping. Once it ends, the FTA expects real, ongoing financial records: revenue recognized when earned, expenses matched to the period they relate to, and documentation that holds up if you're ever reviewed. Businesses that have been running cash-basis, back-of-envelope books for two years will feel this transition much harder than businesses that kept clean records the whole time.
What to do before the deadline
Check whether you'll still qualify for your final eligible tax period and make sure you formally elect the relief on your return — it isn't automatic. Start moving your bookkeeping to accrual basis now rather than in January, so your opening balances for the new regime are accurate from day one. And get a real read on what your tax bill will look like once you're out of relief, so it isn't a surprise at filing time. You can check the FTA's official guidance and file directly through the EmaraTax portal.
