Corporate Tax Registration Deadline: Are You Already Late?

Corporate Tax deadlines in the UAE are tied to your specific financial year, not a single date on the calendar for every business — which is exactly why so many companies miss theirs without realizing it.
Why there's no single deadline
Your Corporate Tax registration and filing deadlines are calculated from the end of your own tax period. A company with a financial year ending 31 December 2025, for example, has its return due by 30 September 2026. A business with a different year-end has an entirely different date. If you've only ever heard "the deadline" mentioned in general terms, it's worth checking your specific one directly on the FTA's EmaraTax portal rather than assuming it matches someone else's.
The penalty for registering late
Missing your registration deadline carries a fixed AED 10,000 penalty. There is, however, a waiver available: if you file your first Corporate Tax return within seven months of the end of your first tax period, that late-registration penalty can be waived entirely, even if the registration itself was technically late. This is a meaningful concession, but it depends on hitting the filing deadline that follows — it isn't automatic relief for missing registration indefinitely.
What happens once you're past both
Beyond the fixed registration penalty, late filing adds AED 500 per month for the first 12 months, then AED 1,000 per month after that. Late payment on any tax actually owed is charged at 14% per annum, calculated monthly. None of these come with a grace period — the FTA does not offer extensions, and penalties start accruing the day after the deadline passes.
What to check today
Confirm the exact end date of your tax period, work backward to your real registration and filing deadlines, and if you're already past registration, prioritize getting that first return filed within the seven-month window to protect the waiver. Waiting for a reminder is the most common way this deadline gets missed.
If you're not sure which deadline applies to your business, that's a five-minute check we're happy to do for you before it becomes a penalty.
